– Chapter 25 – The Storm Before Departure
Manchester, 28th May 2025
The Watchman stood once more in the heart of Mancunia, where pigeons glide like old ghosts and the air carries both history and hostility. His sign stood tall, his cap steady, but what approached this day was not just wind — it was emotion untempered by fact.
From the crowd emerged a flame-haired youth — 18 years old, lesbian and loyal to a cause. Her voice was urgent, personal.
🧬 Her brother, she said, was transgender.
🩸 Her claim: “Trans people are committing suicide every day.”
The Watchman didn’t flinch. Calm as stone, he offered the actual figures — statistics grounded in studies, not slogans.
But reason often awakens rage, not resolution.
💢 When he spoke of conversations with “men in dresses,” she snapped:
“Say that again and I’ll punch you.”
Then came accusations of hate crimes, a flash of fury, and the stomp of retreating boots.
No discussion. No clarity. Just indoctrination’s echo and the aftermath of pain not yet healed.
But the Watchman did not speak to wound — he spoke to warn, to ask, to probe the cracks in the mirror we are all being told to worship.
And as the last heckles died on the Manchester wind, he lifted his eyes beyond the square.
Soon, he would travel again.
To a place older than Manchester, older than Liverpool, older than Hebden — a place woven into the bones of the island.
But not yet.
Elemental Breakdown:
- Air (Mind):
A battle of ideas where only one side showed up to think. The Watchman stood in Air’s clarity, while the girl was trapped in an Air-Water storm — feeling mistaken for thinking, slogans mistaken for truth. - Fire (Will):
Her Fire was uncontrolled — a flash of anger without direction, striking at words rather than ideas. The Watchman’s Fire, by contrast, remained discipline in the face of derision. - Water (Emotion):
The core of her identity — love for her brother, fear for his safety — was sincere. But it was manipulated Water, dammed and redirected by ideology. She’d been taught that disagreement equals hate, and fear equals righteousness. - Earth (Truth/Reality):
Reality didn’t move. The facts were there. They were unwelcome, but immovable. Earth was the Watchman’s base, and he stood on it even as others stormed away.
🔷 Elemental Balance of This Chapter
“The Storm Before Departure – The Flat-Capped Watchman, Chapter 25”
- Air (Truth, Reason, Clarity vs Sloganism): 35%
- Fire (Raw Anger, Disciplined Resolve): 25%
- Water (Emotional Sincerity, Pain Distorted by Doctrine): 25%
- Earth (Immovable Facts, Grounded Presence): 15%
Dominant Elements: Air and Water in conflict, Fire flaring, Earth holding
In this chapter, the Watchman meets a young woman armed with slogans and scars — both deeply felt, neither fully examined. Air becomes the battleground: one side rooted in evidence, the other caught in slogans mistaken for reason. Water flows heavy — a sincere love for her brother twisted into rage by ideological filters. Fire bursts without aim, a warning disguised as threat. But Earth holds beneath it all — the Watchman’s unmoved centre, his allegiance to the real over the rhetorical. And so, as the storm passes, he remains — ready to carry truth onward to older ground.
